The finals of the Stroud Guitar Competition. This year it is open only to students currently enrolled at either the University of Akron of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. There will be four performers, each playing a fifteen minute set. It will be judged by Mr. Stroud (U. Akron Guitar, MM, '84) and Duo Amaral. A reception will follow.

Featuring: Recitals and master classes by classical guitarists Pavel Steidl (Czech Republic), Gaelle Solal (France), Lorenzo Micheli (Italy), Matteo Mela (Italy), Jason Vieaux (U.S.A.) and soprano Jung Eun Oh; lectures by master guitar maker Bernhard Kresse (Germany), guest lecturer Jonathan Fitzgerald (U.S.A.), record producer Alan Bise; and an exhibit of fine contemporary classical guitars.
The Jason Vieaux Summer Guitar Workshop is from June 19-24, 2012. It takes place at a beautiful retreat center, the Holy Cross Monastery, in Upstate New York, halfway between Poughkeepsie and Albany on the Hudson River. It is a week-long course that runs concurrently with Gary Schocker's Flute Workshop; Jason and Gary will coach flute/guitar duos as well in addition to solo study. Daily group classes along with a workshop in Alexander Technique with one of the world's leading AT teachers, Bill Connington, as well as yoga classes. A duo recital by Gary Schocker and Jason Vieaux is on Saturday, June 23 at 2:00 pm, open to the public. The cost is $875 for participants including tuition, private room, and board. Meals are prepared by a chef trained by the Culinary Institute of America.
