This master class is made possible in part through the generosity of the D'Addario Foundation and Charles Thomasson of Ameriprise Financial.
Performers for both master classes will include students from Baldwin Wallace University, Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Akron, and Youngstown State University. They are free for observers. No guitar needed, just come and learn from the masters!
What is a master class? Typically in a master class there are pre-chosen student performers. (In this case, we have partnered with 4 area colleges, each of which is providing one classical guitar major to perform.) An audience is also present to observe. Each student has about a 30-minute time slot where they perform a short piece in front of the audience. The teacher then gives each student a lesson in front of the audience, and the audience gets to pick up pointers from a master performer/teacher that they can use in their own playing. It's a great way to get inside the minds of the best musicians in the world! You also get the added benefit of hearing high level students perform. Audience members do not play, so unless you were selected to perform there is no reason to bring a guitar. You'll probably get more out of the class if you're a teen or adult who has been playing classical guitar for a year or more. Not sure if a master class is right for you? Because of the 30-minute time slots, you can quietly leave between students if you find it's not the right fit for you. So give it a try- it's free!
